What's up with NOLOSE!?!

Greetings, NOLOSE Community!

We miss you! It's been too long since we were floating around in Fatlandia with so many of you. Wanted to keep you up to date on what is going on with NOLOSE post-conference.

We have a lot to tell you! Here's what we'll be covering in this communique:

* Thanks for the most successful NOLOSE yet!
* Conference Evaluations
* Movers and changers on the NOLOSE Board
* Would YOU like to be on the NOLOSE Board? Apps due 8/15.
* Would you like to volunteer to make NOLOSE even better?
* Local fat activities of interest...

OK, on with the show!

NOLOSE CONFERENCE JUNE 4-6, 2010, OAKLAND, CA

We had over 150 attendees for a glorious weekend of powerful and fun workshops, great food, an amazing night of fat performance, the best dance party ever, telling of stories and of course, swimming. Lots and lots of floating around in the epicenter of our weekend Fatlandia, the pool.

Thank you for bringing your hearts, your minds, your energies, your histories and your beautiful fat bodies to commune on the West Coast with us. We provide the space, but it's the community that made it an amazing conference. To quote one of the evaluations:

BEST. NOLOSE. EVER.

We couldn't agree more.

EVALUATIONS AND WINNER OF OUR DRAWING

Thank you to all of you for your thoughtful evaluations of this year's conference. It's important to know what worked and didn't work with the conference and our process. We are reviewing the responses carefully and will take your feedback to heart in planning for the coming year and future conferences.

AND... Big Fat Congratulations to Virgie Tovar, winner of our random drawing for the discounted ticket to the next NOLOSE conference. With Virgie in attendance at the next conference, we all win.

MOVERS AND CHANGERS ON THE NOLOSE BOARD

In the last year, we have said some goodbyes to valuable NOLOSE Board members as they have moved on to focus on other rad and important work. Thank you to Naima Lowe and to Amanda Piasecki and Devra Polack, both of whom have commited MANY YEARS of service, brain power and crazy amounts of work to this organization. We're a little verklempt with the goodbyes.

As these important seats have been vacated, the rest of the Board is moving around and taking on new important roles. Congrats and thanks to the following folks for stepping up and taking on these wide, warm seats:

Geleni Fontaine - Secretary
Kim Paulus - Vice President
Tara Shuai - Treasurer

And with all these changes, we are looking for a few great folks to join us on the Board!

INTERESTED IN JOINING OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS?

We are looking to expand our ranks! Do you have radical fat politics? Do you feel you have the skills and vision to help NOLOSE grow? Can you add to the diversity of our working collective with your life/work experience? Please read more about us and apply!

http://www.nolose.org/about/board.php

Our current priorities are to find qualified candidates who will:

  1. Add diversity to our current Board (specifically, we are seeking more diversity in terms of size, race/ethnicity, community connections, ability, gender and/or age);
  2. [at least one member] Bring fundraising, internet technology and web 2.0 skills to the Board. People with a strong background in PR/communications, and/or accounting are also encouraged to apply!

Applications will be considered through Aug. 15 for our upcoming August Board Meeting. You will hear back by mid-September!

WANT TO GET INVOLVED ON A DIFFERENT LEVEL?

Do you have special skills, or a project you think would be perfect to coordinate locally or on a mass scale? Were you inspired by this conference and wondering how to help plan our next one? Please let us know! Our volunteer coordinator will contact you for more info:

For volunteers, in addition to welcoming new ideas and power to organize events throughout the year, we are also specifically looking for folks interested in filling these open roles:
