Call for Participation - Beyond Patriarchy Conference, Eugene, OR May 14-16, 2010

Hi Everyone,

Is anyone interested in being on a panel with the theme of Intersectional Identities, Activism, and Cultural Production for the Beyond Patriarchy Conference at the University of Oregon in May 2010? I'd like to put together a group of 3-5 speakers on this topic for the conference and submit the panel to the organizers. I am a graduate student, but academics, artists, activists, and anyone else of all stripes are invited to send me their ideas for presentations on this panel.

The annual Beyond Patriarchy Conference is free, with no required registration, and open is to all. It will take place May 14-16, 2010 at the UO campus in Eugene, OR, which is about 2 hours south of Portland, OR. The website can be found here: http://beyondpatriarchyconference.wordpress.com/; the Facebook page is here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?v=info&ref=ts&gid=23055933088.

This year's keynote speakers are Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore and Tobi Hill-Meyer. Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore is a writer, editor, activist, critic and troublemaker. Most recently, she is the author of the novel So Many Ways to Sleep Badly (City Lights 2008). She is also the editor of Nobody Passes: Rejecting the Rules of Gender and Conformity (Seal 2007), and an expanded second edition of That’s Revolting! Queer Strategies for Resisting Assimilation (Soft Skull 2008). Tobi Hill-Meyer is just about your average multiracial, pansexual, transracially inseminated queerspawn, genderqueer, transdyke, colonized mestiza, pornographerphowland@uoregon.edu, activist, writer.

The U of Oregon is accessible by train, car, bus, and air, although the closest/ easiest airport to fly into is PDX.  My partner and I will be driving or taking the train down for the conference, and if you are not from around Oregon, you are more than welcome to ride with us if that works for you.

Any questions or comments about this panel idea, email me at stef1213@hotmail.com; questions about the conference itself should be addressed to the coordinators at phowland@uoregon.edu or beyondpatriarchy@riseup.net.
